The HI 903 Karl Fischer Volumetric Titrator and the HI 902C2 two channel Potentiometric Titrators are the latest products in the Hanna family of scientific analytical instrumentation. Designed to streamline and simplify the titration process, these two units offer an excellent balance of features, accuracy and price.

The HI 903 Karl Fischer Volumetric Titrator conducts moisture analysis, combining an ultra-precise titrant delivery system with a magnetic stirrer, sophisticated endpoint determination and background drift correction algorithm. The titrant delivery system is capable of dosing as little as 0.125 µL of titrant maintaining a minimal amount of drift rate. The HI 903 also features a unique anti-diffusion tip preventing unwanted diffusion of titrant into the solvent. These features allow for a 0.1% accuracy when measuring water content from 100 ppm to 100%.
The HI 902 Potentiometric Titrator supports two analog inputs allowing sequential titrations to be performed with different sensors for the precise analysis of acid/base, ISE, Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), and complexometric reactions. The HI 902 uses the same 40,000 step dosing pump as the HI 903 for the precise dosing of titrant used in end point determination.

Both titrators offer Hanna’s unique “Clip LockTM” Exchangeable Burette system for quickly and easily swapping burettes with reagents used to perform different titrations. The Clip Lock system prevents cross contamination since a separate burette can be used for each titrant. Having the ability to swap burettes reduces the time it takes to change reagents for a separate titration since the titrant does not have to be purged from the burette. The other advantage of the Clip Lock Exchangeable Burette system is the ability to utilize burettes of different sizes (5, 10, and 25 mL) allowing for flexibility in the accuracy (0.1% full burette volume) and the minimum amount of titrant that is dosed.

Each unit offers a large, easy to navigate color LCD and can be connected to a PC using Hanna software.
At the end of titration, all data is automatically stored in memory and can be copied via the included USB flash drive or through direct connection to a PC.

“Hanna prides itself in providing the highest level of customer support. We accomplish this by understanding the customer’s application and making the appropriate recommendation, supporting the product after the sale, and listening to the customer as to what products should be considered for future development. In developing a product it becomes important to not only meet the immediate, but also future, needs of the customer. For example, we understand that titration systems such as the HI 902 and HI 903 are an investment and having scalability is an important element in their design. These titration systems were originally designed to support future enhancements. With the new releases they now support the use of an analytical balance to automatically input the weight of a sample into the method that is being used.” said Paul Fabsits, Vice President of Global Business Development for Hanna Instruments “Whether from a small lab looking to perform their own measurements instead of sending out samples to be tested to the most sophisticated lab, our titration systems are designed to grow with the requirements of the customer”

Hanna’s new titrators are available through any one of Hanna’s 40 international locations. These locations provide Hanna customers with local service, support and training and are part of Hanna’s goal to provide an exceptional customer experience.

Hanna Instruments Launches New Calcium Colorimeter on the Checker HC Line

WOONSOCKET, RI- (July 18, 2011) Hanna Instruments is excited to introduce the new calcium colorimeter to the Checker HC line. The new digital HI 758 Calcium Checker HC is an easy-to-use colorimeter for saltwater calcium testing, which is ideal for aquaculture and aquariums applications.

Calcium presence in water supplies results from passage over deposits of limestone, dolomite, gypsum and gypsiferous shale. Its concentration may extend from 0 to several hundred milligrams per liter, depending on its source and treatment. Calcium is necessary in plant and animal nutrition since it is an essential constituent of bones, shells and plant structures. Calcium in water as carbonate is one of the primary components of water hardness which can cause pipe or tube scaling.

The HI 758 Calcium Checker HC is extremely simple to use. First, zero the instrument by adding Reagent A, deionized water and 0.1 mL of sample into the vial. Insert into the HI 758 and press the button. Next, remove the vial and add Reagent B and shake to dissolve. Reinsert into the Checker HC and press the button to read the calcium concentration in parts per million on the display. It’s that easy!

The Checker HC line of products is manufactured in our European state-of-the-art ISO 9001:2000 production facility. Each Checker HC is CE compliant to EN 61326-1 and EN 61010-1 standards.

HI 755 Alkalinity Checker Update

Woonsocket, RI (November 17, 2010)

To Hanna Instruments HI755 customers.

During the past 3-4 weeks, we have been analyzing various solutions for improving the process of the HI755 alkalinity checker.

I am pleased to announce that we have reached a solution that will both improve the procedure, and enhance the accuracy of the checker over a wider range of alkalinity levels.

The solution involves replacing the HI755-25 powder reagents with HI755-26 liquid reagents. The performance of the liquid reagents was benchmarked against the results of an automatic titrator in seawater aquarium samples. These repeated tests showed consistency in performance within our original accuracy specifications of (+/-5% of reading, +/- 5 PPM.

In addition, the measurement time has been reduced to less than 30 seconds because the liquid reagents do not possess the same solubility issues as the powder reagents.

Our plan is to offer a free upgrade kit to all our customers. The kit will include the liquid reagents, a new revision of the instructions, and some spare caps for the cuvettes.

To receive your kit, please go to www.hannainst.com/reagentupgrade and provide the required information. The upgrade kits are being produced as we speak. Our goal is to begin shipping them beginning the week of 11/29/10.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support.

Affordable Alkalinity Tester for Saltwater Aquariums

Woonsocket, RI (September 14, 2010) HANNA Instruments is pleased to release the new HI 755 Alkalinity Checker HC. The HANNA HI 755 Checker HC bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits are not very accurate and only give 5 to 10 points resolution while professional instrumentation can cost hundreds of dollars and can be time consuming to calibrate and maintain. The HANNA HI 755 Checker HC is accurate, affordable and sells at $49.50.
Hanna instruments knows that alkalinity is one of the most important parameters to measure in salt water aquarium. The alkalinity helps maintain a stable pH and is an important factor for most aquatic life. In seawater, bicarbonate is by far the largest contributor to alkalinity. Alkalinity is measured instead of bicarbonate levels, which are otherwise quite difficult to determine. Bicarbonate is a critical element, as corals must have a ready supply of carbonate and bicarbonate to form their skeletons. Without an adequate level of alkalinity, healthy coral growth is not possible.

With the HI 755 alkalinity checker HC you can check you alkalinity fast and accurately. The alkalinity Checker HC features an accuracy of ±5% of reading ±5 ppm and uses the colorimetric method. The contoured style of this Checker HC fits in your palm and pocket perfectly and the large LCD is easy to read. The auto shut-off feature assures the battery life will not be drained if you forget to turn it off. The HI 755 Checker HC is extremely simple to use. After zeroing the instrument with your water sample, add the reagent to the cuvette and shake. Then insert the cuvette into the HI 755 Checker HC and start the timer. Invert the curette when prompted and press the button to read the results. It’s that easy! Get yours today at www.hannachecker.com

Seawater Refractometer

Woonsocket, RI (January 6, 2010) Hanna Instruments Inc, is pleased to introduce the new HI 96822 Digital Refractometer. The HI 96822 is a water resistant, lightweight, easy to use, cost-efficient device that is extremely precise and accurate. It utilizes the measurement of the refractive index to determine the salinity of natural and artificial seawater, ocean water or brackish intermediates.

This digital refractometer eliminates the uncertainty associated with mechanical refractometers and is rugged and portable enough to be used at home, in the lab and out in the field. After a simple user calibration with distilled or deionized water, a seawater sample can be introduced into the sample well. Within seconds, the refractive index and temperature are measured and converted into one of 3 popular measurement units: Practical Salinity Units (PSU), Salinity in parts per thousand (ppt), or Specific Gravity (S.G. (20/20)). All conversion algorithms are based upon respected scientific publications using the physical properties of seawater (not sodium chloride). With the ability to read in all the three of the most widely salinity units it is the ideal instrument for any application.
